6 Budget-Friendly Ways to Redesign Your Bathroom
Posted February 18, 2022
Do you have plans to remodel your bathroom, but you’re on a limited budget? You may not think it’s possible to remodel a bathroom for cheap, but it’s absolutely doable. You will need to be creative and open to alternative possibilities, but in doing so, you’ll have more options available.
Also, keep in mind that you can always update your bathroom over time instead of all at once. This way, you can stretch your budget further. Below are seven budget-friendly ways to redesign your bathroom.
1. Use Cheaper Flooring Materials
These days, you don’t have to invest in costly flooring to make your bathroom look expensive. Luxury vinyl tile is economical and mimics the look of stone tile or wood planks. It’s durable and waterproof (with the exception of the seams). Water-resistant laminate is also a good choice for half-baths with a sink and toilet.
2. Choose Lookalike Countertop Materials
You don’t need to pay for granite or quartz to get a high-end look. For example, high-definition laminate beautifully mimics the look of stone or wood. Engineered stone is hygienic and low maintenance, and typically cheaper than granite. For something clean and affordable, ceramic is also a good choice.
3. Frame Mirrors and Update the Lighting
Framing your mirrors is a quick and easy way to elevate your bathroom. You can purchase a custom mirror frame kit or cut and stain pieces of wood. Now is also a great time to update your bath and vanity lighting. If you can’t afford both right now, at least clean your light fixtures and replace non-working bulbs.
4. Refinish Your Tub or Shower
If your tub or shower is in good working condition, you don’t have to replace it. Instead, you can refinish it by sanding, patching and etching the surface. This technique removes scratches, shallow cracks and stains. It’s also far less expensive than replacing these fixtures.
5. Install New Faucets and Showerheads
Bathroom trim kits give you everything you need to replace key elements in the bathroom, such as a showerhead and temperature control valves. If you refinish your tub or shower and add a new trim kit, your fixtures will look brand new!
6. Clean and Redo the Grout
If you have tile in your bathroom, the grout will break down over time. Grout needs to be resealed every 1-5 years depending on where it’s being used. Floor grout lasts an average of 3-5 years, while shower grout lasts about 1 year. Even though it’s a tedious job, it’s an essential one that will keep your tile looking its best!
Bathroom improvements do not have to be costly. By shopping around for cheaper materials, working with what you have and doing some things on your own, you can save significant money while still getting the bathroom of your dreams.
